Cookies sold across Canada recalled due to 'metal wire'

President's Choice cookies are the latest grocery product that's part of a nationwide recall that shoppers should be aware of.

Canadians are urged to check their pantry after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) announced on Thursday that Loblaw Companies Limited has issued a recall for its brand cookies due to "extraneous material." The product is sold at Loblaw locations.

According to the notice, the company is recalling the President's Choice English-Style Gingersnap Cookies due to the presence of metal wire. The affected lot comes in a 350g box with the universal product code 0 60383 76819 5. It also has the best-before dates 2027 FE 08 and 2027 MR 14.

"Do not use, sell, serve, or distribute the affected product," states the notice.

The CFIA has classified it as a class two recall. This means that "there is a moderate risk that consuming the food may lead to short-term or non-life-threatening health problems." For public enquiries, Canadians can contact the CFIA at information@inspection.gc.ca or 1 (613) 773-2342.

You can also report any health or safety concerns online.

There have been several other food recalls recently, so it's worth checking if you purchased any of the affected products recently.

On Tuesday, Loblaw recalled two brands of seafood products sold nationwide due to an undeclared ingredient that could trigger an allergic reaction.

A popular brand of hot pepper paste was recently recalled due to undeclared wheat. Consumers with a wheat allergy or those with celiac disease or other gluten-related disorders should not consume the products.

The So Delicious Dairy-Free Salted Caramel frozen dessert was also recalled due to the potential presence of plastic-like and gravel-like pieces.
