Ontario cops on the hunt for people who took part in homecoming chaos

Homecoming weekend chaos was totally out of control in a major Ontario university town, and local police are now trying to track down some of the revellers who went a bit too far celebrating HOCO.

Chancellors Way in Guelph descended into chaos over the weekend, as the Ontario university town was taken over by thousands of students as part of the University of Guelph's annual homecoming festivities.

Guelph Police are now seeking the public's help in identifying multiple individuals as part of their investigation into incidents tied to "a large unsanctioned Homecoming gathering over the weekend," which "placed people and property at risk."

According to police, partygoers are alleged to have thrown objects into crowds, climbed buildings and other structures, vandalized, and shoplifted from nearby businesses during the chaotic event.

"Homecoming is an opportunity to celebrate, but dangerous and unlawful behaviour cannot be dismissed as people simply having fun," said Deputy Chief Steve Gill.

Gill warned that "Throwing objects into crowds, climbing buildings and damaging property can cause serious harm," adding that "Those who put others at risk must be held accountable."

Police are now reviewing video footage and other evidence, looking to connect some of the chaotic events of last weekend to culprits.

Investigators are also asking members of the public with information about the accused to help identify the individuals, and also ask that anyone who required medical treatment or had property damaged during the Homecoming party to step forward.
