Major train outages will impact travel in and out of Toronto this weekend

Closures on GO Transit and the UP Express will make travel scary for plenty of commuters this weekend.

It may be Halloween, but for many people in the GTA, the spookiest thing they'll endure this weekend will be their regular commute.

With planned construction taking place on GO Transit's Stouffville, Lakeshore East, Barrie and Kitchener lines all weekend long, you'll want to plan ahead — like, way ahead — if you're hoping to attend any festivities without ending up way beyond fashionably late.

To further complicate things, there will be no service on the UP Express for the entire weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 1, so prepare to shell out for a cab if you're heading to, or coming home from, Pearson.

Here are all the GO Transit disruptions taking place this weekend.

Barrie Line

There will be no service between Downsview GO and Union Station this weekend.

Trains will run on their regular schedule between Allandale Waterfront/Aurora GO and Downsview GO, and most regularly scheduled trains impacted by the closure will be replaced with shuttle buses.

Riders impacted by the closure can also use TTC Line 1 to travel between Downsview Park and Union Stations.

Kitchener Line

Select replacement buses will run between Stratford or Kitchener GO and Hwy 407 Bus Terminal for the duration of the weekend to contend with planned construction.

The 11:34 p.m. train from Union Station to Mount Pleasant GO will not run, but a GO bus servicing all stops from Union to Bramalea GO will.

Luckily, trains between Mount Pleasant and Mount Dennis GO will be business as usual.

Stouffville Line

While there are no closures on the Stouffville Line this weekend, planned construction will mean that you'll have to get flexible with your departure time.

While there will be full train service between Old Elm and Union Stations, riders should note that all southbound trains departing Old Elm will depart as much as 27 minutes later than scheduled.

Most regularly scheduled weekend trains will be replaced by GO bus service, but these buses won't stop at Milliken, Agincourt, or Kennedy GO.
