Entire Toronto transit line to close for weekend among other major outages

An entire Toronto transit line will be closed this weekend, along with a significant stretch of the TTC subway's busiest route and portions of two GO Transit lines.

Anyone planning to get around Toronto and the surrounding region by transit on the weekend of Sept. 19-20 will want to take note of the many overlapping outages that have the potential to turn the final weekend of summer into a total commuter nightmare.

Closures will affect four major routes this weekend, and here's everything you need to know to navigate the disruptions ahead.

UP Express

For the second weekend in a row, the entire UP Express will close due to planned construction along the route. Train service will be replaced by a direct bus running between the Union Station Bus Terminal and Pearson Airport Terminal 1, with no service at Bloor, Mount Dennis or Weston stations.

GO Barrie Line

Planned construction on the Barrie line will require a halt in service between Downsview Park GO and Union Station for the second consecutive weekend. Passengers travelling to and from Union are advised to use the TTC for service through Toronto.

GO Kitchener Line

A portion of the Kitchener line will be out of service this weekend to accommodate construction work along the route. GO trains will run between Mount Pleasant and Mount Dennis GO, though the stretch south to Union Station will be offline throughout. 

Select GO buses will run between Stratford or Kitchener GO and Hwy 407 Bus Terminal, where passengers can continue their commute using the TTC's subway network.

TTC Line 1 Yonge-University

An approximately three-kilometre stretch of Line 1 between St Clair and College stations will be replaced by shuttle bus service for the full weekend to accommodate "planned track work." 

This stretch includes the busy Bloor-Yonge interchange, and its closure will likely put added strain on other interchange stations like St. George and Spadina.
