Busy three-kilometre stretch of TTC subway will be closed all weekend

TTC subway closures this weekend will include a major stretch of Line 1's busy Yonge Street leg.

The transit agency plans to shutter service on its Line 1 Yonge-University route between St Clair and College stations for the full weekend of Saturday, Sept. 19 and Sunday, Sept. 20.

According to the TTC, the approximately three-kilometre stretch of track through midtown and downtown will be replaced by shuttle buses for the coming weekend to accommodate "planned track work."

During the closure, Summerhill and Rosedale stations will be closed to commuters, along with the Dundonald Street entrance at Wellesley Station. All other stations along the closure will remain open for passengers to purchase and reload fare cards, or connect with surface routes.

Compounding the commuter headaches, the Line 1 closure will coincide with major outages on the UP Express and GO's Barrie and Kitchener lines.

The TTC states that "Regular subway service will resume on Monday, September 21 at approximately 6 a.m.," though there will still be further disruption ahead.

The upcoming full weekend closure is bookended by two disruptions on the same stretch of track, with St Clair to College stations closing early nightly starting at 11:59 p.m. from Monday, Sept. 14 to Friday, Sept. 18, leading into the major outage planned for Saturday and Sunday.

Even after the weekend closure concludes, the same portion of Line will close early for the following work week at 11:59 p.m. from Monday, Sept. 21 to Friday, Sept. 25.
