Someone in Toronto is ranking all the best places to take a dump on the go

Where do you go when you have to go? A University of Toronto student is going viral for posting videos ranking the city's "elite dump destinations," which is exactly the type of public service we didn't know we needed.

Let's be real: everyone poops. You, me, your boss, your crush, the person power-walking down King St. All of us. Yet we still act like it's a shameful secret.

Many of us deal with IBS, sensitive tummies, or just the sheer consequences of one too many coffees ("poop juice" as I like to call it) before work. And don't even get me started on the absolutely lethal combo of a dart and coffee, which is nothing but a ticking time bomb as you rush to find your nearest porcelain throne.

Toronto streets aren't the easiest place to be when nature calls, which is why The Toilet Guy's part comedy, part survival videos are blowing up. It's hilarious, helpful and utterly relatable.

Most bars and restaurants have bathrooms reserved for paying customers, leaving us with very limited options when we just want a quiet place to unload some cargo, if you know what I mean. Who wants to do that in a crowded yet freakishly quiet bathroom anyway?

The content creator, who requests to remain anonymous, tells blogTO he was simply looking for a few laughs before realizing people were actually taking his advice seriously.

"I never thought I'd be doing something impactful," he says. Just four videos in, brands and people alike are engaging with his content, which has amassed over 360,000 views on TikTok, taking over the reins from former unofficial poop guide, Daniel Lyght, who made a splash back in 2022.

Whether it's a secret stall inside University of Toronto's Rotman building — a spot with "high-quality toilet paper," he states — or an incognito bathroom at Yorkdale mall, his most "private VIP experience" to date, The Toilet Guy is on a mission to visit every wiz palace the city has to offer.

Each public bathroom is ranked based on seat, cleanliness and ambience — the latter being a very important factor for the content creator.

"It's all about the atmosphere of how you feel. Does it feel homey or does it feel like you're in a dungeon?" he says. Bathrooms that feel less like sterile grey boxes and have more personality, colour, or funky tilework tend to score extra points.

Seats are equally important.

"A lot of seats in public bathrooms aren't really ergonomic," he says. If he had his way, he adds, all seats would be heated and fitted as though he's taking care of business right at home.

With his videos already taking off in their first week online, The Toilet Guy says he's committed to dropping a "number two" video every single day. Part six, he teases, might be his most interesting one yet.

"Your health is your wealth," he says, adding that going to the bathroom shouldn't be such a taboo topic for people. "There are plenty of great public washrooms out there, you just have to know where to go to find them."
