Entire 100-km GO Train line will be fully closed for this whole weekend

Trips in and out of Toronto could be a mess this weekend, as Metrolinx has announced that an entire GO Transit line will be taken out of commission for the weekend of May 2-3, 2026.

The Barrie GO line will be closed for the weekend of Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, shuttering a whopping 101.4 kilometres of track between Allandale Waterfront GO in Barrie and Union Station in Toronto.

GO buses will replace train service at nine of the eleven stations on the Barrie line, though Metrolinx warns that buses will not serve Downsview Park GO and Union Station. GO buses will also run between Allandale Waterfront GO and the Highway 407 Bus Terminal.

Metrolinx attributes the planned outage to construction work along the line.

Travel alternatives have been posted on the GO Transit website for commuters seeking a way around the closure.

While Barrie line train service is scheduled to resume on Monday, May 4, Metrolinx is advising commuters that service adjustments will stretch on until May 10 due to ongoing "residual construction."
