ttc subway closure this weekend

Over 5km of TTC subway will shut down for this entire weekend

TTC subway closures this weekend include a major stretch of the Line 2-Bloor Danforth route, with over five kilometres of the city's second-busiest transit line to be out of commission for Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1.

The transit agency plans to halt service on an approximately 5.25 km stretch of Line 2 spanning Keele to St George stations for the duration of the weekend.

The latest in a string of outages and early closures stretching back weeks, the scheduled disruption in subway service is being attributed to planned track work as the TTC races to patch up issues ahead of the forthcoming FIFA 2026 madness in Toronto this summer.

This weekend's planned service disruption comes on the heels of a week-long stretch of early nightly closures along this portion of Line 2 to accommodate the same track work.

Commuter headaches will be somewhat alleviated by replacement shuttle buses, and the TTC says that it will have staff available at stations to assist customers. However, with windchill expected to make temperatures feel as cold as the negative double digits on Sunday, the outdoor wait for shuttle buses is sure to cause some grumbling among commuters.

Lansdowne Station will be fully closed off to commuters during the outage. All other stations will remain open for riders to purchase fares or connect with surface routes, though select entrances will be closed at four of the stations affected by the closure.

Closed entrances include the Russett Avenue entrance at Dufferin Station, the Delaware Avenue entrance at Ossington Station, the Markham Street entrance at Bathurst Station, and the Kendal Avenue entrance at Spadina Station.
