Toronto could get blasted with more extreme cold temperatures

Despite some much-needed relief this past week, winter is still very much in full swing, and Toronto's temperatures could soon plunge dramatically for one (hopefully) last icy burst as we head into March.

According to The Weather Network's 14-day forecast for Toronto, temperatures are set to drop quickly on Wednesday, when we'll see a daytime high of 0 c and a nighttime low that'll feel closer to -16 C.

Although conditions will temporarily warm up on Friday, the weekend is set to bring some bone-chilling weather, with a nighttime low of -9 C on Saturday (-16 C with the wind chill), and a low of -12 C on Sunday (-20 C with the wind chill).

Temperatures will remain icy cold as we enter the work week on Monday, March 2, with a high of -7 C, and a nighttime wind chill of -23 C. Between Wednesday and Thursday next week, the wind chill is set to make it feel like -16 C to -18 C at night.

However, some weather models suggest that southern Ontario could see even more frigid temperatures as March approaches. According to the European ECMWG (European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecast) model, which is considered more accurate by some, much of southern Ontario, including in the GTA, could see temperatures dip to the minus teens and even minus 20s during the start of March.

Along with the icy blast, a clipper system from the Prairies could bring yet another winter storm to the GTA on Tuesday. According to The Weather Network, Toronto could see anywhere between three and five centimetres of the white stuff, while areas north and northwest of the city could see anywhere from 10 to 15 centimetres of snow.

The upcoming storm and icy temperatures slightly diverge from an earlier prediction made by the Old Farmer's Almanac as part of its long-range weather forecast for southern Ontario.

That forecast predicted flurries and mild temperatures from March 1 to 6, snow showers and cold conditions from March 7 to 14, and sunny skies with mild temperatures from March 15 to 19.

Overall, the Old Farmer's Almanac predicts that the average temperatures in the region will be 2 C in March (which is 2 C above average), and precipitation totals will fall around the 55 mm mark, which is 25 mm below average in the east and 25 mm above in the west.
