Over 170kg of cocaine worth $4.5 million allegedly seized from Toronto condo

A massive drug bust in a Toronto condo resulted in the seizure of over 170 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $4.5 million last month.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) revealed details of the investigation by the Golden Horseshoe Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) on Friday, calling the bust "evidence of a large-scale and sophisticated cocaine trafficking operation across the Golden Horseshoe area of southern Ontario."

The 170-kilogram haul is roughly equivalent to the weight of three people, which, coincidentally, is how many were arrested in the investigation.

The RCMP state that they executed a search warrant at a Toronto condominium allegedly in use as a storage and preparation area for cocaine distribution.

Two Hamilton men were arrested during the raid, while a third male from Brantford was taken into custody not far from the scene.

Police state that follow-up warrants at multiple locations in Hamilton resulted in further seizures of roughly $165,000 in cash and jewellery that police allege are proceeds of crime.

Tony Van Le, age 39, of Hamilton; Cong Quang Van, age 38, of Hamilton, and Hai Thanh Hoa Tran, age 41, of Brantford, have been charged with multiple possession offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

"Through the outstanding collaboration of our Joint Forces Operation partners, investigators have disrupted a significant organized crime network, seized approximately 170 kilograms of cocaine, and prevented these harmful drugs from reaching our communities," said Insp. Police state that the investigation is ongoing.
