More than 60,000 popular Ford vehicles just recalled in Canada over crash risks

Canadians who own a Ford vehicle may want to check if it's part of a massive recall.

The car manufacturer is recalling 60,221 Ford light trucks, vans and SUVs over brake issues that it says could lead to an increased risk of a crash.

"Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause the electronic brake booster motor to shut down. If this happens, there could be a sudden increase in brake pedal force," reads a recall notice issued by Transport Canada, which was updated on Aug. 6.

The agency adds that this could cause certain driver assistance systems to malfunction.

"This problem would cause the antilock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) and brake warning lights to turn on, warning messages to display in the instrument cluster, and a warning chime to sound," reads the notice.

Not only could these malfunctioning driver assistance systems increase the risk of a crash, but so could the brake software issues.

"A sudden increase in brake pedal force can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash," explained Transport Canada.

The following vehicles are affected by this recall:

• Ford Bronco 2025
• Ford Expedition 2025
• Ford F-150 2025
• Ford Ranger 2025
• Lincoln Navigator 2025

According to Transport Canada, Canadians who own any of the affected vehicles will be notified by the car manufacturer by mail and sent a wireless over-the-air software update for the electronic brake booster module software.

"Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Ford dealership," reads the notice.
