ttc subway closure this weekend

Almost 5 kilometres of TTC subway will be closed all weekend

Another TTC subway closure this weekend will grind a portion of Toronto to a halt.

The transit agency plans to shut down an over 4.5-kilometre-long stretch of the Line 2 Bloor-Danforth subway for the entire weekend of Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Those planning to get out and enjoy the many events on tap for the weekend will have to contend with yet another closure affecting a lengthy portion the subway network, with this weekend's closure to stretch from between Kipling and Jane stations.

All subway service will be suspended during this period, and passengers will instead be corralled onto shuttle buses to cover the gap in service.

According to the TTC, this latest outage has been planned to accommodate ongoing signal work along Line 2. It will mark just one of a staggering 38 (partially overlapping) full-weekend closures planned for 2025 announced by the transit agency earlier this year.

All subway stations on the affected stretch will remain open for customers to connect with surface routes and purchase fares, though the automated entrance at Royal York Station will remain closed during the outage.

In a press release, the TTC states that "while the TTC does most subway maintenance at the end of service each night, it continues to require weekend and early weeknight closures to complete state-of-good-repair work."

Regular subway service is expected to resume in time for the start of the morning rush on Monday, July 7.
