Travellers headed to India from Toronto can soon take advantage of a new, non-stop flight service that's set to make the long journey much more efficient.
Air India announced this week that it's launching new, direct flights between Toronto and Mumbai, while also upgrading its Delhi-Toronto service. During the 2026-27 winter season, the carrier is set to operate a total of 20 weekly flights between India and Canada, including three weekly flights from Mumbai to Toronto.
The seasonal service will launch on Oct. 25, 2026, and will run until March 26, 2027, adding approximately 2,000 seats every week between the two countries. Air Canada previously launched a direct Toronto to Mumbai route, but this winter, Air India is so far the only carrier that will operate direct flights between the two cities.
Currently, the journey to Mumbai from Toronto involves one or two stops with layovers in countries like France, the UAE, England, the Netherlands, or Germany.
Flights will depart Mumbai at 4 a.m. local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and arrive in Toronto at 10 a.m. Flights from Toronto will depart at 1:30 p.m. local time on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, and arrive at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport at 2:10 p.m. the next day.
The route will be served by Air India's Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, which features upgraded cabin interiors, eight first-class suites, 40 flat-bed business-class seats, and 280 economy-class seats.
News of the direct route comes just a few months after the airline confirmed it was reducing frequency on two major routes to Canada, including cutting flights between Delhi and Toronto from 10 to five per week.
The flight reductions were introduced due to soaring fuel prices resulting from the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, which has strained international trade since earlier this year.
