Flight from Toronto to India receives bomb threat mid-air

A New Delhi-bound flight from Toronto reportedly received a bomb threat during its 15-hour journey to the nation's capital, according to multiple local news outlets

Air India flight AI188 is a routine, daily flight service from Toronto Pearson Airport to Indira Gandhi International Airport. The flight, which operates Boeing 777 aircraft, typically departs around 1 p.m. local time and arrives in New Delhi around 3 p.m. the next day.

According to the largest news agency in India, Press Trust of India, Delhi police reportedly received a bomb threat for flight AI188 on Thursday. In response, the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC) investigated the message and concluded that the threat was "non-specific." 

"Onboard crew carried out all the laid down security drills, keeping passenger safety and security as top priority. The flight has landed safely at Delhi and has been parked for the mandatory security checks by the security as per the protocol," a spokesperson told multiple media.

Based on tracking data from Flightradar24.com, the flight landed safely at Indira Gandhi International Airport just after 3:40 p.m., and reached the gate shortly after 3:50 p.m. According to authorities, all passengers and crew members disembarked the aircraft safely, and no injuries were reported.
