Ride a vintage train through fall colours at this lakeside railway in Ontario

With Ontario's fall colours soon to reach their peak in the province, now's the time to plan a road trip to get out and take in those views, and the Port Stanley Terminal Rail is a great way to experience the vibrant seasonal hues and take in a bit of history in the process.

This heritage railway offers Scenic Train Rides that take you on a vintage locomotive through the lakeside village of Port Stanley. The 60-minute trip wraps up at Whytes Park, where you can hop off, stretch your legs, snap photos with the old-school circus car, and take in the fall foliage that surrounds the park.

If you're looking for something a little more festive, the Pumpkin Patch Train Ride is a seasonal offering, too. It takes you out to a pumpkin patch at Whytes Park, where you can even pick out a pumpkin to bring home.

For those who like a bit of entertainment for their journey, the railway also runs a Murder Mystery & Dinner Train on select dates in September and October. The experience includes a full three-course meal followed by a live whodunnit show.

It's not your average fall colours activity, but it might be worth checking out if a little immersive theatre is your thing.

The fall excursions run on weekends and select weekdays throughout September and October, with tickets starting at $15 and ranging up to $110, depending on the chosen experience.

You can check out the full schedule and book your spot on the Port Stanley Terminal Rail's website.

The station is located at 309 Bridge Street in Port Stanley, Ont.
