There's a new but familiar look coming to the Toronto Raptors, though fans will have to wait a little bit before they see it on the court.
With excitement building around the Raptors' future, the team appears set to make a slight change to one of their iconic uniforms, bridging the franchise's old and new eras together.
According to jersey design company ProLine Mockups, the Raptors, are one of four NBA teams expected to unveil a new jersey for the 2027-28 season.
The company reported that the team has sent a "heads up" to stop production of its red-and-black Statement Edition jersey by the end of 2026, with a minor tweak to the colour now coming in 2027.

The reported change would swap black and red for purple and red, an apparent nod to the franchise's Jurassic Park roots. When the Raptors joined the NBA in 1995, the team opted for purple to stand out from other franchises and appeal to young fans.
The colours were an instant hit, and has since aged like fine wine over the past 30 years. Even Sports Illustrated recently gave the classic Raptors design its flowers, recently ranking it as the best NBA jersey of all time.
Despite its popularity, Toronto chose to ditch the purple in the mid-2000s in favour of a more modern, red, white, and black look to distinguish the team as Canada's lone NBA franchise.
The Black/Red Statement Edition jersey that's now getting a makeover hasn't been used by the team for too long. It made its debut during the 2020-21 pandemic bubble season, and will reportedly be used until the end of this 2026-27 season.

There's been no official rendering of what the new jerseys will look like, although fans have already created their own mockups featuring the Raptors' traditional purple. There's also been no word on when the designs will be announced, only that the updated jerseys are reportedly expected to join the team's rotation for the 2027-28 season.
Still, it's something Raptors fans can get excited about, especially for those diehards wanting purple to make a comeback.
