Two of Canada's Wonderland's mammoth roller coasters, Leviathan and Behemoth, will remain closed indefinitely, according to an update from the park shared on Friday.
The decision to halt operations on two of the park's biggest coasters came earlier this week after an incident involving Goliath, a coaster that reaches speeds of 112 kilometres per hour at Six Flags Over Georgia, resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries.
Although Six Flags has released little additional information since the accident, it decided to shut down similar attractions across all its parks, including Leviathan and Behemoth at Canada's Wonderland, out of "an abundance of caution."
The rides remained closed as of Friday, when Wonderland President Christopher Mortensen issued a statement informing parkgoers that "Leviathan and Behemoth will remain closed for the time being," and that the team will share updates as they become available.
"Our park is open and welcoming guests as scheduled. As efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident continue, certain rides similar to the attraction involved in Georgia remain temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution," said Mortensen.
"This includes Leviathan and Behemoth. All other rides and attractions that were scheduled to operate will be available to guests, subject to normal operating conditions and availability," he added.
Since the tragic incident this past Monday, netizens have raised concerns alleging a lack of safety measures at the park and accusing it of employing underage ride operators
In its original statement following the incident in Georgia, Canada's Wonderland reaffirmed its commitment to guest safety, confirming that it remains its "highest priority."
"We maintain rigorous inspection, maintenance, and operational procedures that meet or exceed industry standards. Our attractions undergo daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections, and our team members receive extensive training to safely operate and maintain our rides," added Mortensen.
Although two of Canada's Wonderland's biggest coasters are out of commission until further notice, parkgoers can still enjoy the park's other thrill rides and the ongoing Halloween Haunt 2026 before the season officially winds down.
