Toronto Maple Leafs have new goal horn but people think it was stolen
They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
The Calgary Flames are about to kick off a season of celebration as they bid farewell to the legendary Saddledome after 43 years. There will be lots to miss about the old barn, including the iconic saddle shape of the rink itself, its precariously high media box, the infamous 'dome foam beers, and the acoustics of the team's goal horn ringing throughout those storied halls.
But Flames fans seem to think that the Toronto Maple Leafs have copied a small blueprint from the Saddledome, specifically the goal horn. While Calgary won't open their season until Thursday night, the Leafs kicked off their 2026-27 campaign on Tuesday night, and Flames fans heard a familiar sound after William Nylander opened the scoring for the Leafs.
For whatever reason, fans thought the Toronto goal horn sounded eerily similar to Calgary's.

The Leafs have not officially announced that they would be changing goal horns this season. Throughout the preseason, they actually used a different-sounding horn, one that did not sound nearly as similar as Calgary's.
Flames fans, however, seem convinced that the new horn is a blatant rip-off of the one they have been using for over 20 years. When you listen to the Calgary horn, and then play the new Toronto one back-to-back, you have to admit there are a lot of similarities.
This sparked a furious amount of discussion on social media, with Flames fans accusing the Leafs of stealing their sacred horn in the midst of their farewell season to the Saddledome.
Even a number of Leafs fans were confused about the new horn.
"Did they record the Flames goal horn on someone's phone and just hit play?" said one hockey fan.

I believe the punishment should be sending William Nylander back to his birth city and reuniting with his brother.

There was some chatter on social media that the Maple Leafs were only using this goal horn because their usual one was not working properly, though there has been no firm confirmation on that front as of yet.
If this is truly the new permanent goal horn for the Leafs, it remains to be seen if Flames fans will be angry about the imitation or flattered.
