New Toronto Maple Leafs star Kirill Marchenko doesn't like music

The Toronto Maple Leafs completed a huge trade with the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday for Russian forward Kirill Marchenko, and there's one very important thing his new fan base should know about him: he doesn't like music.

The 27-year-old winger previously appeared on The What Chaos Show, where he revealed that he has no time for music whatsoever.

The hosts asked Marchenko whether he'd learned English through movies or music, and his answer seemed to shock them.

The hosts even had to make sure there wasn't a language barrier, asking him again, "Even Russian music?"

Marchenko simply shook his head and said, "No, no."

Apparently, he doesn't even have Apple Music or Spotify installed on his phone.

"My wife tried [to get me into music], but it didn't work," Marchenko said. "I can't. I am a s*** singer."

So, don't expect Marchenko to immediately step into the role of locker room DJ.

Though now that he's in Toronto for the next seven years, he might have to get used to hearing Justin Bieber, Drake or The Weeknd.

The Leafs signed Marchenko to a six-year, $75 million extension, which carries a $12.5 million annual cap hit and kicks in next season.

To acquire him, Toronto had to part ways with young winger Matthew Knies, who finished third on the team in scoring last season with 23 goals and 43 assists.

The Maple Leafs also sent Steven Lorentz, Emil Andrae and a conditional 2027 second-round pick to Columbus, while receiving Miles Wood and goaltender Elvis Merzlikins in return.

Merzlikins, however, will immediately head to long-term injured reserve (LTIR).

Leafs GM John Chayka told reporters Tuesday that Merzlikins is expected to miss another three to five months after offseason shoulder surgery.

Chayka hopes Marchenko can suit up for Toronto's season opener tonight against the Montreal Canadiens, provided his immigration paperwork is completed in time.
