One of Greece's biggest retail chains opening first Canadian location in Ontario mall

A major Greek retailer is gearing up to make its Canada debut in Toronto soon, with a massive new store coming soon to an Ontario mall.

JUMBO, one of Greece's leading multi-category retailers, is set to open its first Canadian location at Vaughan Mills, bringing its huge selection of toys, seasonal decor, baby products, baby supplies, and home essentials to the GTA.

According to the Vaughan Mills website, the retailer's next store will be located right next to the HomeSense, near entrance 3 and Pro Hockey Life. The upcoming store is set to span approximately 110,000 square feet of retail space and will take over the former Toys "R" Us store that shuttered at the mall earlier this year.

The chain's arrival at Vaughan Mills marks the beginning of its planned expansion across Canada, which will bring between five and 10 stores across the country within the first three years of JUMBO's Canadian operations.

The company first began as a toy-focused retailer in 1986, and has since grown to operate dozens of stores across Europe, including 53 in Greece, 20 in Romania, 10 in Bulgaria, and six in Cyprus. Through its franchise partnerships, the chain has also expanded into other countries in southeastern Europe, including Albania, Kosovo, and Serbia.

The retailer has also grown steadily, reporting record group sales of €1.233 billion ($1.9 billion CAD) in 2025, up just over seven per cent from the previous year.

JUMBO's entrance into the Canadian market comes just as Toys "R" Us' presence across the country continues to shrink. The toy retailer entered creditor protection back in February after owing at least $120 million to vendors and landlords, and since then, an Ontario court has approved plans to split up and sell the Toys "R" Us Canada business to three buyers.

One of those deals will see the lease for the Toys "R" Us location at Vaughan Mills sold to Fox Group Jumbo Canada. The retailer has also closed 53 stores across Canada over the past two years, leaving just a handful of stores left, including one in Etobicoke.

Although there's no official opening date for the new JUMBO store at Vaughan Mills yet, the mall writes that the massive shop is "coming soon."
