Canada's first-ever Toys 'R' Us is officially shutting down

The end of an era is just days away as Canada's first-ever Toys "R" Us location in Brampton, Ont., is set to close for good.

The landmark store first opened its doors in 1984, marking the beginning of a 42-year run serving generations of customers with toys, baby products, and children's clothing.

The closure comes amid a turbulent period for the brand. Earlier this year, the company entered creditor protection and has since been shrinking its store footprint across Canada. A handful of Toys "R" Us locations have closed in recent months as the retailer continues to restructure its business, and former storefronts have already started being replaced.

The Brampton location, which has been winding down operations and reducing staff over the past year, has now put up closing signage and is set to shutter for good on July 12.

Customers have until 5 p.m. on the store's final day of business to shop the store's remaining discounted products.

Toys "R" Us is located at 150 West Dr. in Brampton, Ont.
