IKEA is opening its first compact store in Canada and here's what you need to know

Going to IKEA is a full-out event thanks to the store's huge layout, detailed room models, and on-site restaurant.

But while it's fun to do the full IKEA walk-through, it's not always convenient when you want to get in and out to pick up something simple. 

That all changes at White Oaks Mall in London, Ontario, where IKEA Canada is opening a compact store designed for quick visits and everyday essentials.

The first of its kind in Canada, the new location brings IKEA closer to where Londoners live, work, and shop.

The same IKEA, but smaller

At 43,000 square feet, the compact store is about one-fifth the size of IKEA Burlington. However, it will still carry more than 2,500 everyday essentials and seasonal favourites, including about 400 furniture products available for immediate purchase and takeaway from the self-serve warehouse. Customers can also order from the full IKEA product offering with flexible delivery and collection offers.

The compact store won't be totally without the classic IKEA room layouts. You can expect inspiring room sets along with smart solutions for a better and more sustainable life at home.

And what about the IKEA meatballs, you ask? Don't worry — you can order those, and a selection of other food while you're at it!

Swing by the grand opening

The compact IKEA isn't replacing the existing London Plan and order point location you know and love, but rather acts as a more convenient and accessible option in addition.

The existing London pick-up location will also remain open, so you can still count on having a convenient pick-up location for orders placed at the new store or online. 

Ready to get in on the action? The store is officially opening its doors on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at White Oaks Mall, and Londoners are invited to a free grand opening celebration, which will feature special contests, offers, giveaways, and more.
