Toronto mall just underwent a major transformation and here's what it looks like

More than two years after announcing it would undergo a major interior renovation, Toronto's Bayview Village shopping centre has finally unveiled the results.

A mall is a mall, but not all Toronto malls are created equal, and with its over 70,000 sq. ft. facelift officially complete, it looks like Bayview Village is putting its hat in the ring for the city's most stylish.

After just over two years of construction and a closed parking lot, the bandages are finally off, breathing new life into the Bayview Avenue mall that opened in — and had remained hitherto largely unchanged since — 1977.

Long considered one of Toronto's more luxury-forward malls, the renovation embodies that sense of opulence by sparing no sumptuous detail: chevron-patterned marble floors, brass and copper detailing and Venetian plaster ceilings.

The "Big Bang" chandelier is the centrepiece of the mall.

But the impact of the renovation can be seen — even, almost viscerally, felt — most staunchly upon reaching the mall's Centre Court, where the new "Big Bang" chandelier presides over shoppers like an indoor sun.

"Lady Flamingo" may well become the mall's new mascot.

Another larger-than-life addition is the playful "Lady Flamingo" sculpture, which pays homage to the mall's famously flirtatious pink-and-black branding.

It all serves to transform Bayview Village into the sort of place you could visit and stay at all day, explains Antonio Tadrissi, the interior designer behind the project: the sort of place that malls used to be for people.

"The reimagining of Bayview Village is far more than a renovation – it's an opportunity to create an entirely new experience," Tadrissi explains.

"I wanted it to feel less like a place you pass through and more like somewhere you're drawn into, where thoughtful details, beautiful materials and unexpected moments come together."

Now home to a multi-storey flamingo sculpture and one particularly show-stopping chandelier, it's safe to say that Tadrissi's commitment to "beautiful materials and unexpected moments" has panned out.

It's not just the mall's interiors that have been upgraded. Bayview Village has also welcomed an impressive fleet of new retail to its halls recently, including HANK., Tilley, Pür & Simple and Kit & Ace, as well as a new McEwan Fine Foods location slated to open in 2027.

Bayview Village has been a local staple since 1977.

Overseen by QuadReal Property Group, the renovation at Bayview Village is just one factor in a broader "22-acre master plan" to build a new community, rife with residential, retail and public properties, in and around the mall.

So far, the mall's revitalization is the only element of the broader project to be completed, but once it's all done, it'll feature more than 1M sq. ft. of residential space and over 100,000 of new retail.
