Toronto Raptors about to give Kyle Lowry legendary send-off he deserves

The Toronto Raptors have officially named the date when the greatest Toronto Raptor of all time will be honoured at Scotiabank Arena.

On Thursday, the team announced that iconic point guard Kyle Lowry's No. 7 will be raised to the rafters at Scotiabank Arena during a post-game ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 10, when the Raptors host the Philadelphia 76ers.

Rumours suggested the ceremony would take place when Lowry's former teammate DeMar DeRozan was in town with his new team, the Denver Nuggets; however, it has been confirmed that it will happen when the Raptors host Lowry's former and hometown team, Philadelphia.

DeRozan could still be in attendance to see his former teammate and best friend's jersey number honoured. The Nuggets play in Cleveland on Jan. 9 and have a day off on the day of Lowry's ceremony in Toronto

On that night, Lowry will become just the second player in Raptors history to have his number retired, joining Vince Carter, whose No. 15 was retired during the 2024-25 season.

"I've been looking forward to this moment for years. I always said that Toronto is home, and that I'd retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me," Lowry said.

"We built something special here — my teammates, the organization, the city and the fans, and all of Canada. We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me."

Raptors fans will be at the heart of the celebration, with Lowry-themed giveaways happening throughout the week leading up to the Jan. 10 game against the 76ers.

The weekend begins Jan. 7 against the Minnesota Timberwolves and continues Jan. 8 against the Utah Jazz. Fans will take home a collectible T-shirt on Jan. 7 and a limited-edition Lowry bobblehead on Jan. 8, with special programming and surprises planned throughout both nights.

Earlier this week, the Raptors also teased a new Lowry-themed logo that could appear on the T-shirt or even on the court on Jan. 10.

Lowry spent nine seasons with the Raptors from 2012 to 2021, helping Toronto capture its first-ever NBA Championship in 2019. He currently ranks second in franchise history in both games played (601) and points (10,540).
