Toronto Blue Jays' former top prospect is nearing long-awaited MLB debut

In a season where seemingly nothing has gone right, Toronto Blue Jays fans finally got some good news on Wednesday morning.

Ricky Tiedemann, who was once the top prospect in the Blue Jays organization, is being promoted to Triple-A Buffalo after a brief but successful stint in Dunedin. The 23-year-old, who is now ranked as the No. 10 prospect for the Jays, has pitched just four innings this season after missing all of 2025. 

Injuries have derailed the 2021 third-round draft pick to this point, though that could soon change.

Rather than carrying on as a starter, the Blue Jays have opted to use Tiedemann exclusively as a one-inning pitcher this season. The hope is that the shorter appearances can finally allow him to stay healthy.

The sample size is extremely limited, but the results have been promising. In the four innings Tiedemann has pitched, he's giving up just one earned run while striking out seven. In his latest appearance, his fastball touched 97.4 m.p.h. while averaging 96.5

Though Tiedemann will both need to stay on the mound and pitch well in Triple-A, it is looking like there's a real opportunity we will see him make his long-awaited MLB debut with the Blue Jays in September. 

That would certainly be a nice silver lining on a season that both the organization and fan base would otherwise prefer to forget.
