Toronto Blue Jays playoff hopes take major blow after Bieber's injury update

The Toronto Blue Jays received some frustrating news regarding starting pitcher Shane Bieber on Tuesday afternoon.

Bieber, who had the best start of his season against the Tampa Bay Rays this past Thursday, has been placed on the 15-day IL with right teres major inflammation. In a subsequent move, the Blue Jays announced that Chad Dallas has been recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and will be active for Tuesday night's outing versus the Kansas City Royals.

Though Bieber's 2026 season has been a disappointing one due to injury and inconsistent play, he had been turnings around as of late. He gave up one earned run or less in five of his last seven starts, helping lower his season ERA to 4.53.

The injuries to the Blue Jays rotation are continuing to pile up, as both Trey Yesavage and Jameson Taillon are also currently on the IL. Meanwhile, Cody Ponce, Jose Berrios, and Bowden Francis have been unavailable all season due to injury.

Despite this tough blow, the Blue Jays remain right in the thick of things when it comes to a playoff spot. They currently sit two games back of a wild-card spot, and, according to Tankathon, have the second-easiest remaining schedule of all 30 MLB teams. All 30 of their remaining games come versus teams with a record below .500.
