Toronto Blue Jays have playoff lifeline with easy remaining schedule

The 2026 MLB regular season has flown by, and in five weeks, the first pitch will be thrown to kickstart the playoffs.

Coming off a magical World Series run that captivated the country last year, not a whole lot has gone right for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2026.

The Blue Jays have battled injuries all season and a lack of offensive production at the plate, yet somehow are just 1.5 games outside a playoff spot with 30 games remaining.

And there's a reason for fans to be optimistic: Toronto has one of the easiest remaining schedules in all of baseball.

According to Tankathon.com, the Blue Jays have the second-easiest remaining schedule among all 30 MLB teams. Of their 30 remaining games, none are against teams with a winning record.

The ranking looks at a team's remaining games and calculates the combined winning percentage of its opponents. Toronto's remaining opponents have a combined winning percentage of .464, the second-lowest mark in baseball behind the Seattle Mariners' .448.

The best teams the Blue Jays will face down the stretch are the Cleveland Guardians (65-66) and Texas Rangers (65-66), two teams in a similar position to Toronto as they fight for the third and final Wild Card spot.

On the other hand, it would take a miracle for the Blue Jays to defend their 2025 AL East title.

Toronto currently sits 14 games behind the Tampa Bay Rays with 30 games to go, meaning the Blue Jays would have to win 14 more games than Tampa over the final stretch just to have a slight chance at taking the division.

According to FanGraphs, Toronto's odds of winning the AL East have officially reached zero. However, its chances of securing an AL Wild Card spot and returning to the postseason continue to climb.

As of Monday morning, the Blue Jays have an 18.3 per cent chance of making the playoffs, almost 15 points higher than where the team stood before the 2026 trade deadline.

There's even more good news for Blue Jays fans: Toronto has a winning record of 12-10 against eight of its 10 remaining opponents this season. Two clubs are teams Toronto has not played yet in the 2026 season: Kansas City Royals and Cincinnati Reds.

So, while Toronto's season has been far from what many fans expected, the Blue Jays still have a lifeline and have 30 games to make something of it.
