The upcoming MLB All-Star Game will have a unique Toronto Blue Jays flair to it.
While the festivities will be held in Philadelphia, the Blue Jays will be sending three players to the All-Star Game this year. That number was originally four, but Vladimir Guerrero Jr. declined the invite to help heal up from a back injury.
In his stead, infielder Ernie Clement and pitchers Louis Varland and Dylan Cease will represent Toronto at the annual event. It will be Cease, however, who will be making the most history for the franchise.
The 30-year-old was named the American League starter for the game, making him just the fourth Blue Jays player ever to hold that title. He will join Roy Halladay, David Wells, and Dave Stieb as the only Toronto pitchers to start the All-Star Game.

This will be the first time that Cease has ever been given the honour of starting the All-Star Game. He had previously been playing in the National League with the San Diego Padres, and while he had success there, he had never appeared in an All-Star Game until this year.
It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. Cease has been enjoying a fantastic debut season in Toronto, with a 2.56 ERA and 148 strikeouts through 17 starts. It also helps that Blue Jays manager John Schneider will also serve as the AL manager at the All-Star Game.
Schneider revealed the decision to Cease in front of all his Jays teammates before Sunday's game against the Padres.
How did Cease learn he's starting the All-Star Game?

Cease will have some big shoes to fill following in the footsteps of Halladay, Wells, and Stieb before him. With how he's played this season, there should be no doubt he's the man for the job.
