Tyler Heineman's time with the Toronto Blue Jays has come to an end.
The 34-year-old catcher has been traded to the Los Angeles Angels for "cash considerations," the Blue Jays announced Wednesday evening.
Heineman had been designated for assignment five days ago to make room for Alejandro Kirk, who was returning from a thumb injury.
Rookie catcher Brandon Valenzuela surpassed Heineman on the Blue Jays depth chart, which made Heineman the odd man out.

Heineman has played for five teams in his 203-game MLB career, which includes three separate stints with the Blue Jays. He first signed with the team in 2022, but only lasted two months before being claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates. He rejoined Toronto a year later, in 2023, when the Blue Jays traded for him.
Then, after losing the Los Angeles native on waivers to the Boston Red Sox, the Blue Jays reacquired Heineman in September 2024.
Heineman appeared in 31 games for the Blue Jays this season, notching one home run and a .154 batting average. He appeared in just one postseason game for the Blue Jays last year, in the memorable 18-inning game against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 3 of the World Series.
