What Vladdy said after ending long Toronto Blue Jays home run drought

It may have been the most important Toronto Blue Jays home run of the 2026 season. 

After going the whole season without a home run at Rogers Centre, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. finally changed that against the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. 

Vladdy smashed a homer off Baltimore's Trevor Rogers in the fifth inning during Sunday's 8-1 victory. It was the second of three consecutive home runs for Toronto that inning, with George Springer and Kazuma Okamoto hitting bombs between him, but it was easily the one that garnered the biggest response from the Blue Jays faithful. 

Fans chanted Vladdy's name as Guerrero took his time trotting the bases, and the Toronto dugout exploded with celebration as he donned the home run jacket. 

After the game, you could tell that Vladdy was so relieved to finally have this out of the way. 

"That feels so good, man," Guerrero told Sportsnet's Hazel Mae. "To me, this is special because you come out with a 'W' and we win the game. I try to do everything to win the game."

The home run was an excellent way to cap off what was a remarkable outing for Guerrero. He recorded four hits at the plate, adding two singles and a double on top of his solo home run. 

It was a great night for the Blue Jays star, and he let his language slip a little bit when talking about how it felt. 

"It feels so f**king good," Guerrero said to raucous applause. "Sorry guys, sorry for the language. Sorry, sorry, but it feels good, you know, it feels good to hit it, and I hope many more to come." 

"I hope this is a sign. I've worked really hard for this."

That quote is a bit funnier when you consider that he said it after a "Jr. Jays" game, where there is bound to be a lot of kids in the stadium. Regardless, it doesn't appear that the crowd cared about Guerrero Jr's colourful language, raining down cheers after he said it. 

As the Blue Jays continue to battle for the final AL wild card spot, the hope is that Vladdy can get hot down the stretch to help them get into the postseason. 

"I hope this is a sign," Guerrero said. "I work very hard at this, and I hope this is going to be the sign. I'm going to keep giving my 100 per cent, all that I got, to the fans and the team and try to help the team every day."

Vladdy has not had the season that a lot of fans envisioned after his incredible run to the World Series last year. Through 135 games this season, he has just nine home runs and 56 RBIs, which rank fourth and third, respectively, on this Jays team. 

There is still time for him to turn things around. If he can help get the Jays into the postseason and put up a few big performances in October, nobody will remember his regular season struggles.
