Despite the intense rainstorm that swept across the GTA on Saturday, dedicated Toronto soccer fans managed to set a new Guinness World Records title for the largest game of human foosball.
The event was presented by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, which officially kicks off in Toronto on June 12.
Dozens of participants (254 to be exact) packed into a custom 150 feet by 68 feet arena at Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore campus this past Saturday in an attempt to set a new world record.
The life-sized rendition of the game was set up similarly to its tabletop version, with players holding onto a bar in front of them while kicking the ball to teammates, as they attempted to score on the opponent's net.
Despite the heavy precipitation, a Guinness World Records adjudicator confirmed the attempt was a success, following a game-winning kick that brought the final score to 12-9.
"We've witnessed foosball history today!" said Chloe McCarthy, Guinness World Records adjudicator. "It is my honour to hereby officially recognize OLG as the record title holder for the Largest Game of Human Foosball. We want to extend our congratulations to the players and organizers for this achievement."
The event celebrated the Crown agency's investment in soccer in communities throughout Ontario, including through Ontario Soccer and Toronto's Soccer for All Legacy program.
As a World Cup Host City Support, OLG is also set to bring experiences to the FIFA Fan Festival Toronto at the Fort York National Historic Site and The Bentway between June 11 and July 19, 2026.
