Water park at Canada's Wonderland forced to delay opening date

A trip to Splash Works is usually the perfect way to cool off after a full day of roller coasters at Canada's Wonderland — but guests will have to wait a little longer to hit the waterslides this year.

The Vaughan theme park has been forced to push back the opening of its popular water park from this weekend to May 30, thanks to a rather miserable weather forecast across the GTA.

While Wonderland officially kicked off its 2026 season on May 3, Splash Works fans were already counting down the days until the water slides reopened. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the previously planned opening date of Saturday, May 23, is expected to be chilly and rainy with a high of just 11 degrees C, while Sunday, May 24, looks a bit warmer at 20 degrees C but with on-and-off showers throughout the day. No fun.

Splash Works has plenty to keep visitors busy once it finally opens for the season. The massive 20-acre water park is included with regular admission and features everything from towering slides to Canada's largest outdoor wave pool. Those looking to take it easy can float along the lazy river between rides.

For adrenaline junkies, Muskoka Plunge remains one of the park's biggest draws, sending riders down a 60-foot-tall, near-vertical slide, zipping down at 40 kilometres per hour.

And if previous summers are any indication, expect long lines. Wonderland guests recently told us they don't mind waiting an hour or two for a roller coaster, so, on a scorching hot summer day, Splash Works lineups could easily follow suit.

Tickets for Canada's Wonderland (which include access to Splash Works) start at $45 plus applicable taxes and fees, and can be purchased online or at the park.

Canada's Wonderland is located at 1 Canada's Wonderland Drive, in Vaughan, Ont.
