Ontario hockey team apologizes after telling smelly fans to shower before games

The Oshawa Generals appear to be having regrets over a statement released to season-ticket holders on Wednesday.

In the statement, the club asked that fans who attend the game ensure their own cleanliness, as there had been complaints over odour throughout the team's home arena, the Tribute Communities Centre. The Generals also asked that fans who went to the gym or did anything else that may produce body odour shower before heading to games.

It appears that the statement may not have gone over particularly well, however, as the Generals, who garnered plenty of attention given the unusual situation, took to X to apologize to their fanbase.

"Hey Gensnation," the post reads. "We took a penalty on that last one. It's not our place to overstep like we did.

"We are sorry and hopefully we can wash this one off."

Despite the apology, however, most fans replying on X seemed to take no issue with the General's original statement.

"If you took offence to this, you need to take a shower," one user chimed in.

A potential odour throughout the building isn't all that stinks when it comes to the Generals, either.

The 13-time OHL champions are having a season to forget about, picking up just 12 wins through their first 51 games. They are dead last in the league with 27 points, while the Erie Otters are the closest team in striking distance with 36.
