Toronto Blue Jays linked to Boston Red Sox slugger in free agency

The Toronto Blue Jays aren't done making big moves just yet.

Despite having already spent plenty of money in free agency to bring in Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce, and Tyler Rogers, the Blue Jays brass still has one major priority left to complete: finding a big bat.

The Blue Jays are still interested in re-signing shortstop Bo Bichette, who has reportedly informed teams that he is open to playing second base. They are also still kicking tires on four-time All-Star Kyle Tucker.

And, while still looking to sign one, or perhaps both players, GM Ross Atkins and his staff may also be considering another very valuable hitter in Alex Bregman.

Bregman, who is one of the best players available on the free-agent market, spent the 2025 season with the Boston Red Sox. The 31-year-old finished the year hitting .273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI, numbers which helped him get named an All-Star for the third time in his career.

"I don't think the Blue Jays are done, I think they're going to get a big bat," ESPN's Jeff Passan said on The Michael Kay Show. "Whether that's Kyle Tucker, or Alex Bregman, or Bo Bichette, or maybe multiple of them.

"I think the Blue Jays are in a position right now where they're willing to spend. They feel like they have a window here, and they're going to take advantage of Vladimir Guerrero's prime years."

Bregman could perhaps be insurance for the Blue Jays if Bichette was to sign elsewhere. The longtime Houston Astro primarily plays third base, but has also spent time at shortstop. And, like Bichette, he's reportedly open to playing second base for his future team should it be necessary.
