ttc go rogers centre

Here's how TTC and Metrolinx are preparing for World Series chaos in Toronto

The Toronto Blue Jays have the chance to win a World Series at home at the Rogers Centre as early as Friday night, and masses of crowds are expected to descend on downtown Toronto if the team pulls off its first title in 32 years.

With 46,000 fans packing the Rogers Centre, another 20,000 fans in a sold-out watch party at Scotiabank Arena, and countless more in the streets of downtown Toronto on what's expected to be an already lively Halloween Friday night, a perfect storm of partying in the streets could be brewing.

But it's a storm that the TTC and Metrolinx have prepared for.

TTC

The TTC has pledged to increase service on its busiest routes to handle crowds during Games 6 and 7 (if necessary).

Ten extra trains will run on Line 1 Yonge-University, along with six additional trains serving Line 2 Bloor-Danforth, plus added service on busy downtown streetcar routes.

Previously planned subway disruptions on Friday and over the weekend have been adjusted to ensure that the potential masses of elated fans can safely flow through the city.

Other measures include the addition of extra TTC staff at Union Station and other busy downtown transit hubs.

The TTC stated on Thursday that it will "also monitor Series-deciding games and may need to adjust downtown bus and streetcar routes in the core to ensure service continuity. This could include diversions or short turns to avoid crowded streets."

The transit agency promises to keep the public updated via its website and posts on X, and states that it will notify passengers of any service impacts caused by post-World Series events.

GO Transit

Preparations have also been made for the regional transit system, with Metrolinx introducing added GO Transit service for Game 6 and a potential Game 7 at the Rogers Centre.

GO Transit will offer added train trips on several lines departing Union Station and serving the broader region.

On the Kitchener Line, a newly-added train will depart Union Station at 12:35 a.m. and arrive at Kitchener GO at 2:27 a.m. The Barrie Line is also getting a new train departing Union at 12:30 a.m. and arriving at Allandale Waterfront GO at 2:13 a.m. Stouffville Line passengers can board a new trip leaving Union Station at 12:30 a.m. and arriving at Old Elm GO at 1:42 a.m.

The Lakeshore West and Lakeshore East lines — the backbone of GO's service — will operate their regular frequent train service during both games.
