ttc subway closure this weekend world series

TTC plans major subway outage this weekend unless there's a World Series game

The TTC has planned a subway outage for the coming weekend, one that would be scrapped in the event of a potential Game 7 of the World Series at the Rogers Centre this Saturday.

The transit agency plans to halt subway service on Line 1 between St George and St Andrew stations for the duration of the coming weekend to accommodate planned station work.

The outage would span Saturday, Nov. 1 and Sunday, Nov. 2, with the former date coinciding with a potential winner-take-all World Series game that would draw massive crowds to downtown should the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers series extend to seven games.

However, the transit agency has a backup plan in the event of a Game 7 on Nov. 1, and would cut the full-weekend closure to just a single day if the series stretches out to its max.

Among the six stations that would be affected by the closure, Museum, Queen's Park, St Patrick and Osgoode stations are planned to remain closed throughout the weekend, leaving St George and St Andrew open for passengers to purchase/reload fares and connect to surface routes.

While the transit agency promises that regular subway service will resume on Line 1 in time for the start of the morning rush on Monday, Nov. 3, the outage may be cut short to better move the tens of thousands of fans that could descend on the Rogers Centre if the Jays and Dodgers are forced to duke it out to Game 7 on Saturday.
