Mailo's
Mailo's is a Toronto restaurant serving up fresh pasta dishes from a slick storefront in CityPlace.
Founded in 2019, Mailo's is the brainchild of Nikos Moutsouroufis, a Greek restaurateur with a soft spot for street food.
The franchise gets its name from Nikos' dog, Mailo, who also provided the inspiration for its bowtie-wearing mascot.
Nikos opened his first restaurant in Athens at the age of 23. His goal was to bring high-quality pasta to busy young professionals, bridging the gap between fast-casual and fine dining.
The concept quickly took off, with additional locations popping up all across the country. As of 2025, there are more than 50 locations across Greece, Cyprus and Lebanon.
When Angelo Poulos discovered the brand while vacationing in the Mediterranean, he fell in love almost immediately. Eager to help Mailo's expand, he wasted no time becoming a franchisee, allowing the brand to establish a presence in North America.
Mailo's Toronto location first opened its doors in June of 2026. Angelo explains that he and his business partner, Hammad, chose to open their first store in CityPlace because of the neighbourhood's "energy and diversity."
Its proximity to local landmarks, such as the Rogers Centre and the CN Tower, was another point in the neighbourhood's favour.
The shop itself sports an eye-catching design, with a bright red sign and booth seating. A large LED display dominates the far wall, cycling through promos, patterns and videos of food prep.Mailo's pastas are composed of three distinct parts: noodles, sauce and extras. The noodle options consist of tube-shaped rigatoni, ruffled campanelle and thin, chewy casarecce. The sauce options are even more extensive.
Pastitsio ($17.70) takes inspiration from the Greek dish of the same name. Made with minced beef, bechamel and breadcrumbs, its hearty flavour evokes home-cooked meals and trips to the Mediterranean coast.
Pink sauce ($16) combines crushed tomatoes and parmesan cream to create a tangy rose sauce with a creamy finish. Angelo tells us that this is one of the store's most popular sauces.
Beef ragu ($17.50) is another popular choice, made with slow-cooked beef, tomatoes and assorted vegetables.
The chicken and broccoli ($17.20) was a standout flavour, due to its winning combination of tender chicken, crispy broccoli and velvety cream sauce.
That said, if I had to pick a favourite flavour from Mailo's menu, it would have to be the truffle mushroom ($16.70). Rich, savoury and earthy, this dish is a mushroom lover's dream.
If you're looking to upgrade your pasta, consider adding grated parmesan for $1.70 or truffle oil for $1.90. You can also make your pasta spicy at no extra charge.
Mailo's is located at 357 Bremner Blvd.
