Toronto's coolest new condo tower just crossed a major construction milestone

A new Toronto condo tower with a bold geometry-forward design just surpassed an important construction milestone as it races towards landmark status near Yonge and St. Clair.

Toronto's condo market may be reduced to a hollowed-out shell of its former self in 2026, but a wave of late-boom projects now materializing on the city skyline includes some of the most ambitious builds of this cycle.

This late stage of the building boom features impressive landmarks nearing their final height, including a pair of record-breaking "supertall" towers that now stand as the tallest two buildings in the country, along with visions from some of the heaviest hitters in the architecture world, like a mountain-range-shaped condo and a tower designed to evoke the image of a blooming flower.

That blooming flower-shaped tower, known as One Delisle, marks the first Canadian project from Chicago-based architecture firm Studio Gang, and this 44-storey condo development from Slate Asset Management and Globizen Group is undoubtedly delivering on the bold vision seen in pre-construction renderings.

Under construction since mid-2022, the tower reached its 44th and final residential floor this spring, and will soon top out 155 metres above Yonge Street.

Globizen shared a construction update over the weekend, writing that "The team has just poured the last residential floor of One Delisle," and noting that the building's double-height architectural crown will materialize in the coming months.

Now roughly four years into construction, the project had to overcome some hurdles to make it to the milestone recently crossed. In 2024, permitting issues with the City led to a public dispute between the project team and the City that played out online through public blog posts from Globizen founder Brandon Donnelly.

However, that hiccup was eventually worked out, and two years later, Studio Gang's design for the site is now helping redefine the look of the Yonge and St. Clair area with a unique 16-sided cylindrical spire composed of a series of projecting modules.

During the building's marketing phase, Studio Gang described One Delsile as "tuned to Toronto's climate and lifestyle," noting the "distinctive facade [that] comprises a series of eight-storey hooded modules, which nest together as they spiral up the building."

One Delisle is expected to welcome residents of its 371 condominium units later this year.
