Sudbury, Ontario's longstanding annual Franco-Ontario music festival, Festival de La Nuit sur l'étang, is making major changes to its format and itinerary for 2027.
Originally planned as a single-day indoor festival in March 2027, the event has been pushed to June, but with the delay, organizers have also announced a completely new format.
"After more than five decades, we felt it was time to take the next step. The decision to move from March to June and expand into a multi-day festival reflects our desire to create a more accessible, engaging, and festive experience for both artists and audiences," Robert Malette, Board Member, Festival de La Nuit sur l'étang, tells blogTO.
The reimagined four-day outdoor event will feature two major public evenings. "It'll have a comedy and music night on Friday, followed by the 54th edition of La Nuit sur l’étang on Saturday, showcasing an exciting lineup of artists," Malette confirms.
The team is also focusing on expanding its cultural outreach by "welcoming approximately 1,500 to 2,000 students from across Northern Ontario for dedicated school performances earlier in the week."
Festival de La Nuit sur l'étang, which translates to "a night festival on the pond," has spent the last 53 years celebrating Francophone music and culture in Northern Ontario, welcoming around 300 people to its indoor festival each year.
The 2027 edition is now expected to welcome 3,500 to 4,000 people over four days, marking a significant expansion for the longstanding attraction.
"We want to preserve what has made La Nuit special for 53 years while creating more opportunities for artists, reaching new audiences and bringing people together to celebrate Franco-Ontarian culture in a lively summer festival atmosphere," Malette says.
Malette says more information will be available in the new year, but for now, festivalgoers can mark their calendars for June 9 through 12, 2027.
Festival de La Nuit sur l'étang will take place on the grounds of the Terry Fox Sports Complex, located at 21 LaSalle Blvd. in Sudbury, Ont.
