The City of Brampton is preparing to welcome thousands of local residents to its annual Diwali Mela 2026, in honour of the South Asian festival that marks the triumph of good over evil and new beginnings.
Now in its fourth year, Brampton's Diwali Mela will feature special performances showcasing regions from across India. Guests can expect classical dance performances, traditional folk entertainment, and even an opportunity to learn some of the community's most popular dance styles.
City officials have also confirmed that renowned British-Indian singer-songwriter Sukhshinder Shinda will headline the evening's performances with a free concert for longtime fans of his Indi-pop music.
But wait, there's more.
Fireworks are a classic part of Diwali celebrations in India, and the City of Brampton is staying true to tradition. Diwali Mela 2026 will culminate in a drone show and spectacular fireworks display that will illuminate the sky and officially mark the occasion.
"I always look forward to Diwali season in Brampton when communities across the city come together to celebrate through events and festivities," Brampton Mayor Patrick Brown said in a press release about the event.
He also expressed his excitement about welcoming residents to the fourth annual Diwali Mela, a space "where families can share in the joy of the Festival of Lights" and celebrate and foster the "traditions and community spirit that make Brampton so special."
To make the event accessible to residents from around the city, free Brampton Transit shuttles will run every 30 minutes from Mount Pleasant GO Station, Brampton Soccer Centre, Sheridan College, and Gore Meadows Community Center.
Brampton's annual Diwali Mela is set to take place on Nov. 8 from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Sesquicentennial Park, located at 11475 Bramlea Rd. in Brampton, Ont.
