Toronto's first-ever floating sauna and cold plunge pool is officially open

Toronto's waterfront just got a new attraction with the addition of the Löyly Floating Sauna, the city's first floating sauna and plunge pool experience, and by the sounds of it, the Nordic-inspired retreat has already picked up steam.

Although booking windows only opened on Dec. 10, the press release notes that "thousands of people joined the waitlist in the last week" to be first to experience the city's latest one-of-a-kind experience.

'Löyly' (pronounced low-lou) is a Finnish word referring to the steam that rises from sauna stones when water is poured on them. The company says this experience is designed to emulate Finnish sauna heat in the Canadian cold.

"We're thrilled to bring this popular Nordic tradition to Toronto on the heels of its success in Kelowna. It's the perfect time of year to come and experience the effect of slowing down and letting the heat and cold do what they're meant to do," Löyly Floating Sauna co-founder, Jess Rastas, says in a press release.

The introduction of this hot-and-cold circuit is part of an effort to encourage Toronto residents to explore the waterfront during the winter months.

"Toronto's picturesque waterfront is a destination that can be experienced year-round," says Mat Slaman, a partner at Löyly Floating Sauna.

With rest and relaxation at the forefront of this new waterfront attraction, the floating sauna, which is secured to the dock, features a wood-lined interior paired with views of the city's vast skyline.

Guests can opt for a private group session for up to 12 people or join a community session that hosts up to 10 people at a time; either option is $45 per person. Every 75-minute session includes access to the cold showers, outdoor rest area, and the sauna. The plunge pool is not yet open, and there is no anticipated date for when it will be available to the public.

Add-ons are available to enhance your experience at the sauna. Guests can opt to purchase electrolytes for $3, a white towel for $15, and even a branded Tofino Towel Co. Turkish Towel, coming in at $55.

Sessions can be booked directly on the Löyly Floating Sauna website.

The Loyly Floating Sauna is located at 275 Queens Quay W.
