Events on Toronto's Radar for THURSDAY AUGUST 13 2009
... lovingly handpicked from blogTO's events calendar

PARTIES | The End of the Oxford Hotel
One of Toronto's most unique and precious venues, the Oxford Hotel was a house near Kensington Market that hosted backyard shows and art parties for several years, including memorable appearances by Timber Timbre in 2008 and Kimya Dawson in 2007. This week will celebrate the legacy of the Oxford Hotel with four days of music, films, food, friends, games and fun, with tonight's performers including Griffin & the True Believers and Miwa Gemini.
The Oxford Hotel, 117 Oxford St / 6pm

PARTIES | Close Encounters: A Taste Tripping Party
Toronto's first Miracle Fruit party! The Miraculin protein found within the flesh of this fruit coats your tongue and causes sour foods to taste deliciously sweet. Lemons taste sugar-coated and vinegar like honey wine. Seating limited, RVSP here for reservations.
The Drake Hotel, 1150 Queen St W / 8pm / $25

MUSIC | Summerworks Festival: The D'Urbervilles and Forest City Lovers
The Summerworks Festival continues to open the eyes of Toronto's music, theatre and arts community to the seemingly endless talent we have surrounding us. This performance, presented by Out Of This Spark, will feature Guelph's post-punk party monsters the D'Urbervilles and fellow OOTS friends Forest City Lovers.
Theatre Centre, 1087 Queen St W / $10 / 10pm / ALL AGES

GALLERY | Danielle West - Solo Exhibition
Danielle West's paintings explore the fragile state of the female form, set within a theme of escape and against a backdrop of inhospitable landscapes. Her works evoke a sense of wandering, fear, and unsettling means of survival - gracefully illustrated with a touch of humour. Acoustic performances by Emaline Delapaix, Sahra Featherstone and Cristina Taborda. Exhibition runs to Sept 6.
Freedom Clothing Collective, 939 Bloor St W / 1pm-7pm

GALLERY | Little City - Launch Party
Stop by to celebrate the official launch of Little City, a new online arts community and store created by Alyssa Bistonath, John Mani, Emily Thomas and Dar Mustafa (three of the four also have their writing and photos regularly featured on blogTO!), with work by a dozen of Toronto's finest visual artists on display including Sona Safaei, John Mani and Catharine Farquharson.
Starving Artist, 584 Lansdowne Ave

PARTIES | Droppin' The Bombs: Syntonics
This farewell party for Toronto-based producer/designer/photographer Chris Leung will see performances by some of the top names on the Queen West electro-house scene, including the synth-heavy club duo Syntonics, electro/dubstep innovators Bombaman and Sidenote, and a surprise special guest who, rumour has it, is currently one of the biggest names in electronic music...
The Social, 1100 Queen St W / $10 / 10pm / 19+
