Mark Carney

Mark Carney shows major love to Toronto band in latest Nardwuar interview

Prime Minister Mark Carney has a special place in his heart for a particular Toronto band, and he showed it on full display in a new interview with the iconic Nardwuar the Human Serviette.

Like with every federal election, Nardwuar invites all party leaders to be interviewed and have a quintessential Nardwuar convo.

And this time around, Carney was down for the ride.

As the customary Nardwuarpresents roll on out, Carney is gifted with the classic Time to Win EP from Toronto's Down with Webster (DWW, to which he laughs and immediately throws up the DWW 'W.'

Admitting to being a huge fan, the PM dishes on the lore with the legendary rockers (shout out the Beaches!) and reminisces on first hearing them at a live show.

"From the first tuba sounds of 'Time to Win,' I was hooked," he said, referencing the 2009 tune that dominated middle school halls at the time.

That tune was also on heavy rotation during Carney's campaign trails, where it was played after his rallies, he tells Nardwuar.

The DWW dudes have also shared their support, posting a video of Mark Carney's Liberal Leadership acceptance speech with that official campaign song dropping at the end.

As for the rest of the interview, Carney mentions eating poached eggs with Premier Doug Ford, his apparently iconic "Carney cut" hairdo, and Charli XCX - "she's got a real range."

And yes, PM Mark Carney did play the Hip Flip game, unlike former PM Stephen Harper during his run-in with the legendary interviewer.
