Huge outdoor electronic music festival comes back to Toronto this summer

One of Toronto's biggest, longest and liveliest electronic music festivals is back this summer for eight days of sun and sweet sounds.

It may be hard to imagine right now, as wind chills are still consistently subjecting us to sub-zero temperatures, and we still have to take comically large steps around snow banks when exiting cars, but summer is right around the corner, and with it comes a full suite of festivals and events to keep the party going all season long.

Perhaps one of the most exciting, particularly for fans of EDM and outdoor partying, Electric Island is gearing up for its 13th season of taking over Toronto's festival scene.

The festival, which originally took place on the Toronto Islands, has bounced around locations over the past 13 years, dabbling with stints at Woodbine Park, Ontario Place and, most recently, Fort York and the Bentway, which seems to have stuck this time around.

The festival kicks off on the Victoria Day long weekend (May 17 and 18) at — you guessed it — Fort York and the Bentway, with three stages boasting packed lineups all weekend long.

As of the time of publication, Electric Island has only announced the lineup and location for their first weekend, with additional announcements to come as we get closer and closer to go-time.

In the meantime, though, so-called Electric Islanders can look forward to catching sets on May 17 from the likes of Camelphat and Miss Monique on Stage 1; Partiboi69, Cera Khin and Zorza on Stage 2 and rising stars like Brigada and Andy Cue on Stage 3.

The following day, Mochakk, Sammy Virji, Enrico Sangiuliano, John Digweed and Nature of Music will all crank up the volume with sets at the festival.

As the summer rolls along, the excitement surrounding and caliber of Electric Island only continues to ramp up, with additional weekends taking place on June 28 and 29, Aug. 8 and 9 and Aug. 30 and 31, so you can rest assured knowing that you'll never have to go all too long without a music festival to look forward to this summer.

Tickets for opening weekend — which you can purchase either as single or two-day passes — are currently available online. Two-day passes start at $135, while single-day admission starts at $75.
