AFE Society: Minimal Techno/Maximum Quality

Even though I'm pretty tired from last night's Decadence party, I'm still hitting up Footwork Sunday night as AFE Society, one of Toronto's top techno crews, celebrates two years of quality events around the city.

DJ/promoter/graphic designer/AFE head Terence Kissner is pulling out all the stops for this party. He's bringing Berlin heavyweight Steve Bug, one of his personal favourites and one of the top minimal techno/house DJs in the world.

What makes AFE so special? They're commitment to putting on quality events. Not interested in cashing in on any scenester fads, these parties are all about doing it right.

Terence and fellow AFE resident Lee Osborne will also be spinning, but expect Steve Bug's extended set to run until around 5am.

Keep reading for a Q&A I did with Terence about AFE and the big party this Sunday.

blogTO: What does AFE stand for and why did you start this company?

Terence Kissner: AFE stands for Are Friends Electric. I've been promoting events for the last 13 or so years under different names in my hometown of Kitchener-Waterloo. I really started hosting events to hear the music I love, by the people who make it. Simple.

What events are you most proud of to date?

My favorite was the first one I held at footwork called Tsudoi. It was my little Christmas treat and featured my good friends Mike Shannon, Pan/tone, J. Hunsberger, Adam Marshall, Dave Karwowski, Nitin and myself. Always good to party with your friends during the holidays!

What's the craziest thing that's ever happened at an AFE party?

Don't think I can talk about that.

What can people expect this Sunday at Footwork?

Steve Bug is hands down one of my favorite DJs in the world! So you can expect nothing short of the best dance music this side of the sun from Steve, Lee and me. Along with amazing visual by world renowned Derivative we will be sure to blow a few minds!
