One of a Kind: Christmas Show & Sale

Looking for that unique gift crafted by a Canadian artisan? The One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale includes over 750 vendors from across the country. It is on now until December 4th at the National Trade Centre, Exhibition Place.

Ranging from jewellery & accessories to children's gifts to furniture to clothing to food to... well, with so many vendors the offerings are many and varied.

It takes a good couple of hours to see the whole show fully. But the admission price ($12 on site, $10 online) gives unlimited access throughout the run of the show. The best time to check it out leisurely is during the weekday as the crowds tend to not be so overwhelming.

An added bonus: I was happy to see a sampling crew from Schick Intuition (remember that Jewel song?) on hand giving out free razors. I'm a sucker for free samples and those damned razors cost over $10 in the stores!

There are also plenty of samples in the "Flavours" food section. I was on the hunt for one of the most decadent fruit cakes I have ever had and thanks to the sampling, I was able to find it at Cranberry Creek from BC. A cranberry fruit cake, not the typical doorstop type of fruit cake, it is moist, dense and rich. It comes with a recipe for a vanilla sauce to be paired with the cake. After a bit, my fellow foodie friend proclaimed that it was the best thing she has tasted in a long time.

As in past shows, the "Flavours" section also saw the return of

Tangled Garden (savoury herb jelly and sauces - perfect for chicken and pork dishes), Tracy's Wine Jellies (made with Niagara Wines - the ice wine jelly on crackers is a hit for get-togethers) and Short & Sweet Cookies (incredible buttery and short shortbreads).

I also found cutie-poe bags by Zinnia, some great gifts for the kids on my gift list like Diabolo Puppets, the much-read about Buddha Pants by Yogagurl, original T-shirts designed by Ooglie and creative greeting cards by Cartacatou. There are also a myriad of visual artists with works on canvas, photography, wood, weaving and more.

I was so wiped by my first excursion, but I'm hoping to make it back before the end of the show. And just maybe for another free razor sample.
