Toronto's historic Distillery District, already home to no small number of well-loved restaurants, just added a funky new sandwich shop to its roster.
The Distillery has long drawn Toronto locals and visitors alike to stroll its red-brick alleys and sit down for a sumptuous meal at dining destinations like El Catrin, Archeo, and Cluny.
For just as long, however, it's been missing one thing: a quick-service sandwich shop. In a city as crazy for anything that can be placed within a bun or between two slices of bread as Toronto is, a shop shilling such bites would be a no-brainer, but it simply hasn't existed.
Until Billy's Bodega moved in, that is.
Quietly opening its doors in late summer 2026, Billy's, a sandwich shop-cum-80's bodega, offers up the perfect hand-held accompaniments to a day spent exploring the neighbourhood, be they of the Caesar wrap, meatball sub or French dip variety.
The star of the show is the Little (or, if you're really hungry, Big) Billy, a smoked meat sandwich that features 150g (or 300, in Big Billy's case) of seven-day brined meat on thick slabs of rye.
"A great sandwich sounds simple, but the details make all the difference. We take our time with the smoked meat, and we're not shy about the portions," says co-founder Simon Ho.
True to its bodega name, plenty of other snacks and treats are available at Billy's, too, with an expansive selection of candy, pantry staples and even milkshakes that can be dressed up with your choice of sweets from the bodega's shelves.
Whatever you choose to sate your hunger with, Billy's Bodega is officially here, and it's ready to serve you at 16 Trinity St. in the Distillery District.
