If you find yourself in Christie Pits Park this weekend, you may just be able to walk away with a fresh-baked pizza and a bunch of new foodie friends.
You may or may not know this, but Christie Pits is home to a public pizza oven that visitors can book to make their own stone-fired pies to dig into on a day in the park; but if you prefer to leave the cooking to the professionals, The Depanneur has you covered this Sunday, Aug. 23.
Celebrating its 2nd birthday, the culinary event venue is taking over the Christie Pits oven for a pizza party of epic proportions, churning out over 100 pies for the park's visitors.
Joining forces with chef Anthony Sesito of North York's Pastaio, The Depanneur is setting up shop at the oven starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday and will offer a selection of pizzas and pastas that you can pre-order online and pick up there or order on-site.
Pie offerings include classic margherita and pepperoni, calabrese, funghi e scamorza or chef's choice, ranging from $14 to $16, while pasta lovers can pick up rigatoni alla vodka or ravioli al forno for $12. You can also opt to grab any pizza and pasta for $24.
Walk-in pizzas will only be available until they sell out, so if you want your park pie to be guaranteed, you're better off pre-ordering online.
At the oven, there'll be some seating set up, so if you arrive early enough, you can also score a seat with your fellow pizza people and make new friends over a slice.
The pizza party also coincides with the closing weekend of the Toronto Outdoor Picture Show, which will be screening Little Miss Sunshine at sundown (around 8:30 p.m.) — a perfect lineup for a summer Sunday, if you ask me.
