People are already 'taking the piss' out of the new pub replacing a Toronto staple

There's a new pub replacing a longstanding Toronto staple, but some of the city's residents already have thoughts on the newcomer's silly sign.

If one can expect anything from the restaurants of Atef Girgis, owner of the beloved-but-defunct Prenup Pub and Village Idiot (then Genius, then Idiot again), it's the unexpected, and his latest project appears to be no exception.

Taking over the Yonge and Roehampton space that housed the delightfully dusty Duke of Kent pub for nearly 50 years before closing, Girgis' latest venture is a sort of second coming for the Prenup Pub, called, go figure, the Post-Nup Pub.

Poking fun at Prenup's folding isn't the only cheeky element that's already woven its way into the pub's presentation so far, though.

Earlier this week, local Reddit users took to the r/FoodToronto subreddit upon discovering that the pub has mounted a particularly, uhh, splashy sign above the door.

"Not really sure about this new pub that's opened up in Midtown. Nice sign. Yonge and Eglinton," the original poster writes.

Some users immediately started, well, taking the piss out of the sign.

"Lot of pisstory on that corner from what I've heard. I’m in. Are urine?" one user writes.

Others pointed out that the sign appears to allude to the famous Manneken Pis statue in Brussels, which is fitting for the pub because, as another Reddit user points out, the Prenup Pub was known for its selection of Belgian beers, which had better be the only golden liquid making an appearance at the Post-Nup.

There's no word yet on when the Post-Nup Pub will officially be in business with regular hours, but when it does, you can follow the stream to 2315 Yonge St. for a pint.
