Croatian soccer star Luka Modric was just spotted dining at a Toronto restaurant

Croatian soccer star Luka Modric surprised staff and fans alike when he swung by a Toronto restaurant for a meal this week.

It looks like getting booted from the World Cup after a 2-1 loss to Portugal at Toronto Stadium on July 2 has done little to quell Modric's appetite, or his willingness to explore the city.

The player, widely considered one of the best midfielders of all time, took advantage of his unexpected free time in Toronto after Croatia's Round of 32 by exploring — where else? — Yorkville.

Win or lose, being a top-tier athlete works up an appetite, so it's only natural that the star footballer would stop off to grab a bite amid his urban exploration. His restaurant of choice? Sofia.

The Italian restaurant gave no word on what Modric ordered, but given that he played the final game of his international soccer career on Toronto turf in the Portugal-Croatia match, one can only assume — or hope, at least — that he went big.

As for whether Modric is still celebrating the end of his international soccer days in Toronto, that, too, is up in the air, so the next time you find yourself in Yorkville, you may want to keep an eye out.

Sofia is located at 99 Yorkville Ave.
